“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has.”

— Margaret Mead

Founded in 2017, S.H.I.F.T. (Support and Hope for Individuals and Families Today) is the only service of its kind in South Simcoe, dedicated to providing lifesaving supports to youth, adults, and families experiencing or at risk of homelessness and food insecurity.

Our name reflects our purpose: to help people make a meaningful shift in their circumstances - toward stability, dignity, and hope. We believe that change begins with connection. Through consistent, trusting relationships and honest communication, we empower individuals and families to make choices that lead to brighter futures.

At S.H.I.F.T., we envision a united community where every individual has access to stable housing, support, and opportunity. Our mission is simple yet profound: to partner with the individuals and families we serve to make a meaningful shift in their circumstances.

Why We Exist

Homelessness and food insecurity are not just urban issues - they exist here in South Simcoe, often hidden in plain sight. Behind every statistic is a story: a youth couch-surfing to escape abuse, a senior choosing between rent and groceries, a family living in their car after a sudden job loss.

We believe no one should face these challenges alone. That’s why S.H.I.F.T. provides safe spaces, essential resources, and compassionate support - meeting people where they are and walking alongside them toward stability.

What We Do

Our programs are designed to address urgent needs while tackling the root causes of homelessness. We operate with principles of harm reduction, housing-first, and holistic care, ensuring that every person is treated with dignity and respect.

Our Services Include:

1. Emergency Overnight Shelter (EOS)

A housing-focused program offering safe overnight accommodations for up to 10 men, women, and youth each night. Service users receive a warm bed, meals, showers, basic supplies, harm reduction resources, and intensive case management to help secure temporary or permanent housing.

2. Daytime Drop-In Centre

A welcoming space for respite, meals, clothing, showers, and wraparound supports. Open daily to anyone experiencing homelessness or food insecurity, the centre also provides computer access, harm reduction supplies, and staff assistance with housing goals and community resources.

3. Street & Community Outreach Program

Our mobile team brings lifesaving resources directly to individuals across South Simcoe—those living outdoors, in vehicles, or on the verge of homelessness. We provide food, hygiene supplies, harm reduction kits, and brief case management, ensuring no one is left behind.

Across all programs, we offer:

- Housing-focused supports and case management

- Access to resources, supplies, and referrals

- Connection to community services and opportunities

Our Impact

Every night, someone in South Simcoe sleeps safely because of S.H.I.F.T. Every day, someone eats a nourishing meal, takes a shower, or finds hope in a conversation with our team. These moments matter - they are the first steps toward lasting change.

Since 2017, we have supported thousands of individuals and families, helping them navigate crises and rebuild their lives. But the need is growing, and so is our commitment.

How You Can Help

S.H.I.F.T. is more than a charity - it’s a movement of compassion and community. Your support makes it possible for us to keep doors open, beds available, and hope alive. Whether you donate, volunteer, or advocate, you become part of the solution.

Together, we can create a South Simcoe where everyone belongs, everyone is supported, and everyone has a place to call home.
