The Coldest Night of the Year is a winterrific family-friendly fundraising walk in support of local charities serving people experiencing hurt, hunger, and homelessness... because it’s cold out there. Join us on February 28, 2026 - across the country, close to home!
Street Level Advocacy of Peterborough exists to meet people where they are—on the streets, in the parks, and throughout our downtown—and to advocate for their next steps. Our goal is to build a team that engages directly with those experiencing homelessness and hunger, offering support, dignity, and practical help.
Peterborough has a beautiful downtown. However, in recent years, it has also become a resting place for those who do not have a fixed address. Many people camp in the parks, gather on benches, or spend time by the river. Locals often feel distressed by these changes and get frustrated without fully understanding why so many are living this way.
A few years ago, I picked up a young man on a cold day and offered to help fix his e-bike, as he was visibly struggling. I soon realized that he—like many others—had a deep desire to start a new life, find a job, and secure housing but lacked the resources or wasn’t taken seriously. What he needed was an advocate. So I became his advocate and helped him find permanent housing. That experience inspired the work we now do through Street Level Advocacy of Peterborough.
All funds raised through the Coldest Night of the Year will go directly toward street outreach supplies, food, and coffee—practical items that help us support our neighbours with compassion and care.
